Spirit River resident takes home $140K with LOTTO 6/49 win

A Spirit River local has won $140,383.80 on the March 6 LOTTO 6/49 draw.

Daniel Alfred purchased his winning ticket at the Spirit River IGA a few days before the draw. He says he returned to the store to scan his ticket six days later.

“I gave my ticket to the cashier and she said, ‘I think you won $14,000,’” he recalled. “I looked at her and said, ‘I think it’s a little more than that!’”

“We were both a little stunned!”

The happy winner, who says he has been playing LOTTO 6/49 since the early 80’s while picking all his own numbers, said he has a couple of ideas for his winnings.

“We’re going to put the money into the ol’ bank account,” he laughed. “Eventually we’d like to do some travelling, but we can wait for that.”

“I’m mostly looking forward to having a little nest egg and enjoying retirement,” he said.

Alfred won the game’s second-top prize by matching five of the main draw numbers and the bonus number.
