A Beaverlodge-raised player will be continuing her career with Canada’s National Women’s Volleyball team.

Dani Smith has been named to the roster that will represent Canada in the FIVB Volleyball Nations League.

It will be played in a bubble in Rimini, Italy with the women’s games starting May 25 and the men’s starting May 28.

Canada will be one of four challenger teams on the women’s side, along with Belgium, Poland, and the Dominican Republic.

Canada earned its place in Nation’s League for the first time ever after winning the 2019 FIVB Volleyball Challenger Cup, a team Smith was a part of.

They will join 12 core teams, Brazil, China, Germany, Italy, Japan, Korea, Netherlands, Russia, Serbia, Thailand, Turkey and the U.S. in the round-robin style tournament.

The preliminary round is set to last through June 20 for the women and June 23 for the men.

Canada’s first opponent has not been set.
