Murder case makes first appearance in Grande Prairie court today

A man charged in the December death of 16-year-old Hannah Sutton makes his first appearance in Grande Prairie court today.

Her boyfriend,19-year-old Justice Watt-Blais, is facing a murder charge and has been in custody since being arrested.

RCMP Corporal Shawn Graham says Sutton was found dead in a home near 94 Avenue and 100 Street the morning of December 16.

“An autopsy was completed by the Medical Examiner’s Office in Edmonton, who confirmed the deceased died as a result of a gunshot wound.”

Graham adds Watt-Blais was arrested December 20.

Four people facing charges of accessory after the fact are also due to make their first appearance in court today. They are Darian Chonkolay, Austin Haynes, David Comber and a 17-year-old youth. They have also been in jail since being arrested.
