Vehicle Inspections

Roadcheck 2021 focuses on commercial vehicle safety

May 4, 2021 | 12:48 PM

Starting Tuesday, May 4, Alberta’s Sheriff Highway Patrol will be inspecting commercial vehicles as part of the Roadcheck 2021 initiative.

Hundreds of inspections of commercial vehicles will go throughout the province as part of the North America-wide Roadcheck 2021 campaign, which runs until Thursday, May 6.

Alberta’s Sheriff Highway patrol officers will be inspecting commercial vehicles and drivers to make sure they are in compliance with federal and provincial regulations and that equipment meets the standard requirements.

This year’s campaign will focus mainly on vehicle lighting and driver’s hours of service, but inspections will also check the credentials of drivers; the brake and fuel systems of vehicles; tires, wheels and rims; cargo securement; steering mechanisms; suspension; and other critical components of vehicles.

“An important part of keeping Albertans safe is making sure our roads are safe and that vital goods and services reach their destination on time – something that has been more important than ever during the pandemic,” said Minister of Justice and Solicitor General Kaycee Madu in a release.

“Ensuring commercial drivers and vehicles comply with safety standards saves lives, prevents collisions and protects Alberta’s highway infrastructure.”

The data collected through the three days of inspections will be used for statistical analysis.

Alberta’s Sheriff Highway Patrol’s conducted 727 inspections under the Roadcheck 2020 initiative.
