Grande Prairie records 75 new COVID-19 cases, 18 recoveries

The City of Grande Prairie recorded 75 new cases of COVID-19 and 18 recoveries for Thursday, May 6, bringing the active case total in the City up by 57 to 510.

The County of Grande Prairie added 19 new cases along with 13 recoveries for Wednesday. There are now 185 active cases in the County.

Those new figures bring the City of Grande Prairie to a rate of 689.9 active cases per 100,000 population, while the County sits with a rate of 582.3 per 100,000. Those rates are above the provincial active case rate, which sits at about 565 per 100,000, with 24,860 active cases in the province.

Across Alberta, there were 1,980 new cases identified following the completion of 18,936 tests. Those tests had a 10.5 per cent positivity rate.

Updated case totals among Peace Region municipalities as of the end of day May 6 are as follows:

  • City of Grande Prairie: 3,564 cases (510 active, 3,028 recovered, 26 deaths)
  • County of Grande Prairie: 1,242 cases (185 active, 1,052 recovered, five deaths)
  • M.D. of Greenview: 530 cases (25 active, 501 recovered, four deaths)
  • Birch Hills County: 21 cases (two active, 19 recovered)
  • M.D. of Spirit River: 78 cases (six active, 72 recovered)
  • Saddle Hills County: 26 cases (two active, 24 recovered)
  • M.D. of Smoky River: 144 cases (nine active, 125 recovered, 10 deaths)
  • Big Lakes County: 701 cases (69 active, 620 recovered, 12 deaths)
  • M.D. of Lesser Slave River: 344 cases (48 active, 296 recovered)
  • M.D. of Peace: 646 cases (89 active, 557 recovered)
  • M.D. of Fairview: 118 cases (18 active, 99 recovered, one death)
  • Clear Hills County: 133 cases (one active, 132 recovered, one death)
  • Northern Sunrise County: 306 cases (15 active, 290 recovered, one death)
  • County of Northern Lights: 121 cases (seven active, 114 recovered)
  • Mackenzie County: 1,662 cases (186 active, 1,453 recovered, 22 deaths)

There were 659 Albertans in hospital for COVID-19 as of Thursday night, an increase of five over the last 24 hours. Of those, 150 patients are in intensive care, up four from the day prior.

In the North Zone, 95 people are in hospital (up 10), 17 of whom are in intensive care (same as day prior).

There were four new deaths reported to Alberta Health from across the province over the last 24 hours. There have been 2,106 deaths recorded in Alberta due to COVID-19 complications.

As of Thursday, 1,792,312 doses of vaccine have been administered in the province, with 59,730 of those doses being administered on May 6, a daily record for Alberta.

311,908 people have received two doses of the vaccine, meaning they are fully immunized.

Approximately 33.1 per cent of Albertans have received at least one dose of vaccine.
