Fundraising For Family of Seven Kids

Fundraisers launched to support family of motorcycle crash victim

The local chapter of the Canadian Motorcycle Tourism Association is running a fundraiser to support the family of Chantelle Jadot, who left behind seven children when she died in a motorcycle crash on May 7 near Fairview.

The CMTA launched a fundraising operation following the news of Jadot’s passing, with the goal of raising money and collecting food for her seven children.

“At this moment in time, we’re at $3,400 that we’ve raised, plus $400 in grocery cards, and about 600 pounds. in food,” said Renee Charbonneau, Executive Director of the CMTA to EverythingGP Monday morning.

Chantelle’s sister-in-law, Caitlin Jadot, who has also started a GoFundMe campaign to raise money for Chantelle’s children ranging in age from three to 19 years old, described her as a very dedicated mother and community member.

“She was a little go-getter. There was no telling Chantelle she couldn’t do something,” said Caitlin.

Caitlin says that ambition showed in both Chantelle’s work and volunteerism. She says Chantelle was a business owner and volunteer firefighter in her home community of Red Earth Creek and had moved to Grande Prairie within the last year.

However, Caitlin says she kept close ties with the Red Earth Creek community, where she grew up and had raised her own kids, and still owned a gas station.

Caitlin says the loss is a big one for Red Earth Creek, as Chantelle was also heavily involved in other community initiatives and services.

“She was always willing to help people.”

The CMTA is collecting donations through the Veterans Memorial Gardens and Interpretive Centre in Grande Prairie, which has a freezer readily available to keep food donations stored in.

The centre is located at 10121 93 Street.

Charbonneau says people can call them and arrange a time to make a donation, or come by between 5 p.m. and 7 p.m. when they will have someone on hand to take the donations.

Charbonneau says it’s amazing to see the outpouring of support from the community so far, and she would like to see that spirit continue to show.

“We’ve always heard, or at least myself while growing up that it takes a village to raise a child. Well, there’s seven of them,” says Charbonneau.

Meanwhile, the GoFundMe page set up by Caitlin has already surpassed its initial goal.

The first goal set was $20,000, with the total campaign sitting at over $23,000 as of 4 p.m. Monday.

The CMTA plans to run its fundraiser through this week, and then reassess and determine how much has been raised for the family and what they can do to continue to support the family.
