Central Mountain Air bringing in Grande Prairie-Edmonton flights starting in June

The Grande Prairie Airport is adding another airline to the mix, as Central Mountain Air has announced a scheduled service between Grande Prairie and Edmonton starting June 28.

The service will start with eight round-trip flights per week, with two times daily service on Mondays and Wednesdays.

The two organizations say an emphasis will be put on early flights to start the week, and late flights through the end of the week.

“We are excited to welcome CMA to our airport and appreciate their confidence in our regional market”, said Brian Grant, CEO of the Grande Prairie Airport.

“We have been working hard to reconnect our region with Edmonton and we are fortunate to have a new air carrier join our market to provide additional options for air travel.”

Grant adds that there hasn’t been direct flights between Grande Prairie and Edmonton since October, and that this service will be especially beneficial for business and government travel.

He says connections to Prince George, High Level and Fort St. John will also be offered through CMA’s existing network from the Edmonton International Airport.

“Today’s announcement is exciting news for our city and the region,” said Mayor Jackie Clayton. “Having a new carrier invest in our market demonstrates an important confidence in our local economy, and is going to increase accessibility and opportunity for our local businesses and residents.”

“We are proud to welcome Central Mountain Air to Grande Prairie and look forward to their future success.”

CMA plans to start offering service with it’s 18-seat Beechcraft 1900D aircraft, but Grant says there are potential plans to bring in bigger planes in the future.

“They do have some scheduled aircraft arrivals that will be larger aircraft in the Dash 8 and the Dash Q-400, however right now they have a lot of the Q-400s that are due to come in as new aircraft and they do have the Beech 1900s which were ready to go immediately.

“So we’re going to start off with the Beech 1900s because they can go quicker so they’ll be ready for the end of June, and then towards the fall they’ll be looking at increased gauge of business to support [bringing in new planes].”

CMA says it is excited to work with the Grande Prairie and Edmonton airports on this route and continue to expand offerings in time.

Grant adds that he hopes to see CMA grow through this partnership and add more direct flights from Grande Prairie to other destinations in the future.
