Forecasted rain/snow mix Tuesday night leads to special weather statement
Environment Canada has issued a special weather statement for all of Northern Alberta, as they say a weather pattern hitting the province could have rain changing to wet snow Tuesday night into Wednesday.
This comes after Environment Canada told EverythingGP Monday that between 20 and 30 mm of rain was expected to hit the Grande Prairie area by Wednesday.
However, the weather office says that starting Tuesday evening, cold air from the Northwest Territories will move southward, causing rain to switch to snow. They say snowfall amounts are unclear as ground temperatures are quite warm.
“Potential impacts include poor travel conditions Tuesday night into Wednesday morning, and the potential for broken tree branches due to the accumulations of heavy wet snow,” officials say in the statement.
