Grande Prairie RCMP unveil new UTV as part of community engagement initiative

The Grande Prairie RCMP will be patrolling the trails and parks of the Swan City on a new set of wheels this spring and summer.

The Grande Prairie detachment unveiled a new community engagement project Friday, as they rolled out their new utility terrain vehicle (UTV), which will be used to patrol the parks and trail system, adding foot patrols will also be taking place in the downtown core.

They say the initiative is being used as a way to better engage with members of the public, while increasing their visibility in the community.

“Community engagement is a priority of the Grande Prairie RCMP,” said Superintendent Sean Curry, the officer in charge of the Grande Prairie RCMP Detachment.

“Increased visibility within the city through UTV and foot patrols offers additional opportunities to interact with the public to discuss concerns they may have which would assist the RCMP in improving its service delivery to the community.”

The initiative is in partnership with Grande Prairie Enforcement Services and the Mobile Outreach Program, a diversion program which works to mitigate the impacts of street level social issues.

The detachment says the Mobile Outreach Team will help with patrols to identify needs of the street engaged population and help them access and navigate the support services they need.
