Grande Prairie records 32 COVID-19 recoveries, seven new cases

The City of Grande Prairie added seven new cases of COVID-19 and 32 recoveries for Thursday, May 20, bringing the active case total in the city down by 25 to 219.

Five new cases and nine recoveries were recorded in the County of Grande Prairie for Thursday. There are now 80 active cases there.

There were 732 new cases of COVID-19 identified across Alberta following the completion of 10,130 tests, resulting in a 7.2 per cent test positivity rate.

Updated case totals among Peace Region municipalities as of the end of day May 20 are as follows:

  • City of Grande Prairie: 3,813 cases (219 active, 3,568 recovered, 26 deaths)
  • County of Grande Prairie: 1,333 cases (80 active, 1,248 recovered, five deaths)
  • M.D. of Greenview: 574 cases (39 active, 531 recovered, four deaths)
  • Birch Hills County: 30 cases (six active, 24 recovered)
  • M.D. of Spirit River: 80 cases (two active, 78 recovered)
  • Saddle Hills County: 28 cases (two active, 26 recovered)
  • M.D. of Smoky River: 146 cases (two active, 134 recovered, 10 deaths)
  • Big Lakes County: 709 cases (10 active, 687 recovered, 12 deaths)
  • M.D. of Lesser Slave River: 354 cases (15 active, 338 recovered, one death)
  • M.D. of Peace: 669 cases (22 active, 647 recovered)
  • M.D. of Fairview: 130 cases (15 active, 114 recovered, one death)
  • Clear Hills County: 135 cases (one active, 133 recovered, one death)
  • Northern Sunrise County: 308 cases (one active, 306 recovered, one death)
  • County of Northern Lights: 135 cases (12 active, 123 recovered)
  • Mackenzie County: 1,838 cases (155 active, 1,659 recovered, 24 deaths)

Hospitalizations for COVID-19 in Alberta have decreased by 27 to 638 as of Thursday night, while the number of ICU patients held at 177.

In the North Zone, 70 people are in hospital (down seven), 13 of whom are in intensive care (same as the day prior).

There were two new deaths reported to Alberta Health from across the province over the last 24 hours. A total of 2,164 Albertans have now died as a result of COVID-19.

The City of Grande Prairie now has 31.2 per cent of its population with at least one dose of vaccine, with 1,245 more people having been reported by Alberta Health to have their first jab as of Thursday.

In total, 23,440 Grande Prairie residents have received at least one dose of vaccine.

In the County, 554 more people have been reported to have their first dose. In the east and west County region combined, 10,975 people have received at least one dose, equaling 32.7 per cent of the population.

Across Alberta, a single day record of over 70,000 doses were given out on Thursday, bringing the total number of Albertans who have received at least one dose of vaccine to 2,401,932.

That total means 46.1 per cent of Albertans are immunized with at least one dose.
