McLennan RCMP warn residents of STARS lottery scam

May 26, 2021 | 10:30 AM

McLennan RCMP are advising residents of a scam circulating in the community, where fraudsters are contacting area residents claiming to be involved with the STARS Air Ambulance Lottery.

McLennan RCMP say they received a complaint from a resident of McLennan regarding the suspected fraud on Tuesday morning.

An investigation following that report showed multiple phone calls had been made to residents in the McLennan area with someone alleging to be a representative of the STARS Air Ambulance Home Lottery, telling people they were the winners of a significant cash prize.

The suspect then asked their potential victims to return the call to a specific number and ask that specific information be provided.

Police say those contacted were aware that the STARS Air Ambulance Lottery had already ended and they did not provide any information.

With that, the RCMP are reminding residents against responding to any other similar calls and are advising to not provide information and disconnect the call.

The McLennan RCMP are also asking anyone who may have information about this incident, or the identity of those involved, to contact the McLennan RCMP at 780-324-3086 or their local police.
