Grande Prairie adds four new COVID-19 cases, 12 recoveries

The City of Grande Prairie added four new cases of COVID-19 and 12 recoveries for Wednesday, May 26, bringing the active case total in the city down by eight to 113.

Six new cases and 11 recoveries were recorded in the County of Grande Prairie for Wednesday. There are now 53 active cases there.

There were 513 new cases of COVID-19 identified across Alberta following the completion of 9,017 tests, resulting in a 5.9 per cent test positivity rate.

Updated case totals among Peace Region municipalities as of the end of day May 26 are as follows:

  • City of Grande Prairie: 3,843 cases (113 active, 3,704 recovered, 26 deaths)
  • County of Grande Prairie: 1,353 cases (53 active, 1,295 recovered, five deaths)
  • M.D. of Greenview: 579 cases (21 active, 554 recovered, four deaths)
  • Birch Hills County: 30 cases (all recovered)
  • M.D. of Spirit River: 81 cases (one active, 80 recovered)
  • Saddle Hills County: 29 cases (three active, 26 recovered)
  • M.D. of Smoky River: 146 cases (two active, 134 recovered, 10 deaths)
  • Big Lakes County: 709 cases (two active, 695 recovered, 12 deaths)
  • M.D. of Lesser Slave River: 356 cases (three active, 352 recovered, one death)
  • M.D. of Peace: 674 cases (12 active, 662 recovered)
  • M.D. of Fairview: 131 cases (six active, 124 recovered, one death)
  • Clear Hills County: 135 cases (134 recovered, one death)
  • Northern Sunrise County: 311 cases (one active, 309 recovered, one death)
  • County of Northern Lights: 135 cases (eight active, 127 recovered)
  • Mackenzie County: 1,863 cases (68 active, 1,769 recovered, 26 deaths)

Hospitalizations for COVID-19 in Alberta have decreased by 10 to 538 as of Wednesday night, while the number of ICU patients decreased by seven to 150.

In the North Zone, 48 people are in hospital (down five), 13 of whom are in intensive care (down one).

There was one new death reported to Alberta Health from across the province over the last 24 hours. A total of 2,199 Albertans have now died as a result of COVID-19 complications.

The City of Grande Prairie now has 35.4 per cent of its population with at least one dose of vaccine. Another 469 people have been reported to have had their first shot, bringing the total number of people in Grande Prairie to get at least the first dose to 26,549.

In the County, 169 more people have been reported to have their first dose. In the east and west County region combined, 11,979 people have received at least one dose, equalling 35.6 per cent of the population.

Across Alberta, 37,170 doses were given out on Wednesday, bringing the total number of Albertans who have received at least one dose of vaccine to 2,251,821, while a total of 2,615,747 total doses have been administered.

That total means 50.4 per cent of Albertans are immunized with at least one dose or 59.2 per cent of those aged 12+. Alberta Health adds 8.1 per cent of the population is fully vaccinated.
