Second Doses Moved Up

Alberta expands second dose vaccine rollout

Jun 1, 2021 | 3:43 PM

Alberta is expanding its second dose rollout for COVID-19 vaccinations, starting with those who received their first dose in March or earlier being able to book an appointment to receive their second dose starting Tuesday afternoon.

Premier Jason Kenney said Tuesday that will be followed by those who received their first dose in April being able to book a second dose starting on June 14.

Those who got their first jab in May can then book a second dose appointment starting June 28.

“Every Albertan who has received their first dose of vaccine will be able to book their second dose appointment by the end of June,” said Kenney.

Those that received the AstraZeneca vaccine can also book their second dose appointment, but will be given a choice of receiving a second dose of AstraZeneca, or receive a dose of either Pfizer or Moderna.

The National Advisory Committee on Immunization changed its guidance to provinces and territories Tuesday, which is now recommending that a first shot of AstraZeneca can be mixed with Pfizer or Moderna.

The province has delivered over 2.81 million doses of vaccine and just over 63 per cent of those eligible, 12 years of age and older, have received at least one shot. Just over 10 per cent of Albertans 12 and older have received both doses.

Appointments can be booked through the AHS website, through a participating pharmacy or by calling Health Link at 811.
