Grande Prairie records 13 COVID-19 recoveries, three new cases

The City of Grande Prairie added three new cases of COVID-19 and 13 recoveries for Monday, May 31, bringing the active case total in the City down by ten to 81.

Five new cases and five recoveries were recorded in the County of Grande Prairie for Monday. There remains 53 active cases there.

There were 209 new cases of COVID-19 identified across Alberta following the completion of 4,100 tests, resulting in a 5.1 per cent test positivity rate.

Updated case totals among Peace Region municipalities as of May 31 are as follows:

  • City of Grande Prairie: 3,865 cases (81 active, 3,758 recovered, 26 deaths)
  • County of Grande Prairie: 1,376 cases (53 active, 1,318 recovered, five deaths)
  • M.D. of Greenview: 582 cases (12 active, 566 recovered, four deaths)
  • Birch Hills County: 30 cases (all recovered)
  • M.D. of Spirit River: 81 cases (one active, 80 recovered)
  • Saddle Hills County: 29 cases (three active, 26 recovered)
  • M.D. of Smoky River: 146 cases (two active, 134 recovered, 10 deaths)
  • Big Lakes County: 710 cases (two active, 696 recovered, 12 deaths)
  • M.D. of Lesser Slave River: 358 cases (five active, 352 recovered, one death)
  • M.D. of Peace: 678 cases (11 active, 667 recovered)
  • M.D. of Fairview: 131 cases (three active, 126 recovered, two deaths)
  • Clear Hills County: 135 cases (134 recovered, one death)
  • Northern Sunrise County: 311 cases (310 recovered, one death)
  • County of Northern Lights: 136 cases (four active, 132 recovered)
  • Mackenzie County: 1,875 cases (42 active, 1,807 recovered, 26 deaths)

Hospitalizations

Hospitalizations for COVID-19 in Alberta have decreased by one to 438 as of Monday night, while the number of ICU patients decreased by six to 127.

In the North Zone, 47 people are in hospital (down one), 13 of whom are in intensive care (up one).

Fatalities

There was one new death reported to Alberta Health from across the province over the last 24 hours. A total of 2,228 Albertans have now died as a result of COVID-19 complications.

Vaccinations

The City of Grande Prairie now has 38.6 per cent of its population with at least one dose of vaccine. Another 398 people have been reported to have had their first shot, bringing the total number of people in Grande Prairie to get at least the first dose to 28,994.

In the County, 129 more people have been reported to have their first dose. In the east and west County region combined, 12,746 people have received at least one dose, equalling 37.7 per cent of the population.

Across Alberta, 29,738 doses were given out on Monday, bringing the total number of Albertans who have received at least one dose of vaccine to 2,413,959 while a total of 2,811,168 total doses have been administered.

That total means 54 per cent of Albertans are immunized with at least one dose, or 63.4 per cent of those aged 12+. Alberta Health adds 8.9 per cent of the population is fully vaccinated.
