Grande Prairie’s active COVID cases stay flat at 57

The City of Grande Prairie’s active COVID-19 case count remained flat at 57 as three new cases and three recoveries were recorded on Saturday, June 5.

No new cases and three recoveries were recorded in the County of Grande Prairie, where there are 47 active cases.

The new figures come as Alberta Health reported 231 new cases province-wide following the completion of 5,337 tests on June 5. Those tests resulted in a positivity rate of 4.3 per cent.

Updated case totals among Peace Region municipalities as of June 5 are as follows:

  • City of Grande Prairie: 3,890 cases (57 active, 3,805 recovered, 28 deaths)
  • County of Grande Prairie: 1,387 cases (47 active, 1,335 recovered, five deaths)
  • M.D. of Greenview: 583 cases (six active, 573 recovered, four deaths)
  • Birch Hills County: 30 cases (all recovered)
  • M.D. of Spirit River: 81 cases (one active, 80 recovered)
  • Saddle Hills County: 30 cases (two active, 28 recovered)
  • M.D. of Smoky River: 147 cases (one active, 136 recovered, 10 deaths)
  • Big Lakes County: 713 cases (four active, 697 recovered, 12 deaths)
  • M.D. of Lesser Slave River: 366 cases (12 active, 353 recovered, one death)
  • M.D. of Peace: 690 cases (17 active, 673 recovered)
  • M.D. of Fairview: 131 cases (129 recovered, two deaths)
  • Clear Hills County: 135 cases (134 recovered, one death)
  • Northern Sunrise County: 310 cases (309 recovered, one death)
  • County of Northern Lights: 136 cases (one active, 135 recovered)
  • Mackenzie County: 1,885 cases (29 active, 1,830 recovered, 26 deaths)

Deaths

Alberta’s COVID-19 death toll remained at 2,246 on June 5 as no new deaths were recorded in the province.

Hospitalizations

Hospitalizations for COVID-19 in Alberta have decreased by 13 to 360 as of Saturday, while the number of ICU patients decreased by nine to 96.

In the North Zone, 37 people are in hospital (up two), nine of whom are in intensive care.

Vaccinations

The City of Grande Prairie now has 40.9 per cent of its population with at least one dose of vaccine. The total number of people in Grande Prairie that have at least their first dose of vaccine sits at 30,693. A total of 4,406 people, or 5.9 per cent of the population in the city, has been fully immunized.

In the east and west County region combined, 13,250 people have received at least one dose, equalling 39.2 per cent of the population.

Across Alberta, 44,107 doses were given out on Saturday, bringing the total number of Albertans who have received at least one dose of vaccine to 2,528,160, while 529,502 Albertans have received two doses.

Those totals mean 56.6 per cent of Albertans are immunized with at least one dose or 66.4 per cent of those aged 12+. Alberta Health adds 11.8 per cent of the population is fully vaccinated.
