Grande Prairie adds one new case of COVID-19

The City of Grande Prairie added one new case of COVID-19 and no recoveries for Sunday, June 6, bringing the city’s active case total up to 58.

One new case and two recoveries were recorded in the County of Grande Prairie, where there are now 46 active cases.

The new cases come as Alberta Health reported 127 new cases province-wide following the completion of 4,027 tests on June 6. Those tests resulted in a positivity rate of 3.2 per cent.

Updated case totals among Peace Region municipalities as of June 6 are as follows:

  • City of Grande Prairie: 3,891 cases (58 active, 3,805 recovered, 28 deaths)
  • County of Grande Prairie: 1,388 cases (46 active, 1,337 recovered, five deaths)
  • M.D. of Greenview: 583 cases (six active, 573 recovered, four deaths)
  • Birch Hills County: 30 cases (all recovered)
  • M.D. of Spirit River: 81 cases (all recovered)
  • Saddle Hills County: 30 cases (three active, 28 recovered)
  • M.D. of Smoky River: 147 cases (one active, 136 recovered, 10 deaths)
  • Big Lakes County: 713 cases (four active, 697 recovered, 12 deaths)
  • M.D. of Lesser Slave River: 368 cases (14 active, 353 recovered, one death)
  • M.D. of Peace: 690 cases (16 active, 674 recovered)
  • M.D. of Fairview: 131 cases (129 recovered, two deaths)
  • Clear Hills County: 135 cases (134 recovered, one death)
  • Northern Sunrise County: 310 cases (309 recovered, one death)
  • County of Northern Lights: 136 cases (one active, 135 recovered)
  • Mackenzie County: 1,888 cases (28 active, 1,834 recovered, 26 deaths)

Deaths

Two new deaths were reported to Alberta Health over the last 24 hours, bringing the death toll from COVID-19 in the province to 2,248.

Hospitalizations

Hospitalizations for COVID-19 in Alberta decreased by nine to 351 as of Sunday night, while the number of ICU patients decreased by two to 94.

In the North Zone, 36 people are in hospital (down one), seven of whom are in intensive care (down two).

Vaccinations

The City of Grande Prairie now has 41 per cent of its population with at least one dose of vaccine. The total number of people in Grande Prairie that have at least their first dose of vaccine sits at 30,802. A total of 4,561 people, or 6.1 per cent of the population in the city, has been fully immunized.

In the east and west County region combined, 13,302 people have received at least one dose, equalling 39.3 per cent of the population.

Across Alberta, 26,457 doses were given out on Sunday, bringing the total number of Albertans who have received at least one dose of vaccine to 2,538,860, while 545,853 Albertans have received two doses.

Those totals mean 56.8 per cent of Albertans are immunized with at least one dose or 66.7 per cent of those aged 12+. Alberta Health adds 12.2 per cent of the population (14.3 per cent of the 12+) have been fully vaccinated.
