Jun 8, 2021 | 12:25 PM

County of Grande Prairie Regional Fire Services was able to safely rescue a cow that had slid down a muddy embankment on Monday in the Teepee Creek area.

Just after noon on June 7, it was discovered the cow had slid down the embankment and was not able to climb out of its location.

With that, members of the Technical Large Animal Rescue team from La Glace, a team with specialized training in large animal rescue, was called to respond.

Firefighters from the Teepee Creek and Sexsmith fire stations, as well as the animal’s owner, also assisted and were able to help place slings underneath the cow before creating a path to slide the animal up the ravine without further injury.

The cow was rescued after a few hours and is doing well, according to the Regional Fire Service.

Following this incident, crews are asking residents to regularly check their properties to ensure livestock safety from dangerous locations.
