Grande Prairie adds six COVID-19 recoveries, four new cases

The City of Grande Prairie added four new cases of COVID-19 and six recoveries on Tuesday, June 8, bringing the city’s active case total down by two to 53.

Six new cases and eight recoveries were recorded in the County of Grande Prairie, where there are now 43 active cases.

The new cases come as Alberta Health reported 313 new cases province-wide following the completion of 8,545 tests on June 8. Those tests resulted in a positivity rate of 3.7 per cent.

Updated case totals among Peace Region municipalities as of June 8 are as follows:

  • City of Grande Prairie: 3,898 cases (53 active, 3,817 recovered, 28 deaths)
  • County of Grande Prairie: 1,394 cases (43 active, 1,346 recovered, five deaths)
  • M.D. of Greenview: 584 cases (three active, 577 recovered, four deaths)
  • Birch Hills County: 31 cases (one active, 30 recovered)
  • M.D. of Spirit River: 81 cases (all recovered)
  • Saddle Hills County: 31 cases (two active, 29 recovered)
  • M.D. of Smoky River: 147 cases (one active, 136 recovered, 10 deaths)
  • Big Lakes County: 714 cases (five active, 697 recovered, 12 deaths)
  • M.D. of Lesser Slave River: 367 cases (13 active, 353 recovered, one death)
  • M.D. of Peace: 689 cases (13 active, 676 recovered)
  • M.D. of Fairview: 131 cases (129 recovered, two deaths)
  • Clear Hills County: 135 cases (134 recovered, one death)
  • Northern Sunrise County: 310 cases (309 recovered, one death)
  • County of Northern Lights: 136 cases (one active, 135 recovered)
  • Mackenzie County: 1,897 cases (31 active, 1,840 recovered, 26 deaths)

Hospitalizations

Hospitalizations for COVID-19 in Alberta decreased by seven to 329 as of Tuesday night, while the number of ICU patients decreased by two to 83.

In the North Zone, 31 people are in hospital (up three), six of whom are in intensive care (unchanged).

Deaths

Five new deaths were reported to Alberta Health over the last 24 hours, bringing the death toll from COVID-19 in the province to 2,256.

Vaccinations

The City of Grande Prairie now has 41.4 per cent of its population with at least one dose of vaccine, or a total of 49.9 per cent of those who are eligible.

The total number of people in the city that have at least their first dose of vaccine sits at 31,076. A total of 5,429 people, or 7.2 per cent of the population in the city, has been fully vaccinated.

Alberta Health Services announced on Wednesday that anyone who has not received a first dose of vaccine in Grande Prairie will not need an appointment this week, as walk-in appointments for first shots are available at the Montrose Cultural Centre clinic from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Thursday, June 10 and Friday, June 11.

Across Alberta, 34,636 doses of vaccine were given out on Tuesday, bringing the total number of Albertans who have received at least one dose of vaccine to 2,559,723, while 598,139 Albertans have received two doses.

Those totals mean 57.3 per cent of Albertans are immunized with at least one dose, or 67.2 per cent of those aged 12+.

Alberta Health adds 13.4 per cent of the population (15.7 per cent of the 12+) have been fully vaccinated.
