The County of Grande Prairie has named Rhonda Heck as the 2021 Clairmont Volunteer of the Year.

The annual award is given to a nominated individual who has displayed dedication and excellence in volunteerism within the hamlet.

According to the County, Heck has been a resident of Clairmont for over 45 years and has been a lifelong volunteer.

Throughout her time in Clairmont, Heck has given back to local organizations including the Clairmont Senior’s Centre, where she has served three consecutive terms as Vice President.

She has also volunteered with the Clairmont Agricultural Society, Communities in Bloom, Bear Creek Folk Festival, minor hockey, social clubs, and many community events.

“Growing up I was always working with people, which I have grown to love,” explained Heck.

“Volunteering is a perfect way to get to know members in my community all while giving back.”

Heck began volunteering at an early age, says the county, when she would help her parents run their restaurant and then confectionary store.

The County says she has passed her legacy of volunteerism onto her adult children.

Division 2 Councilor for the County of Grande Prairie, Daryl Beeston, says it’s people like Heck who help make a community what it is.

“It is hard to imagine what our community would be without volunteers, they are what make our community so vibrant, strong and connected. The County of Grande Prairie is fortunate to have thousands of caring and dedicated volunteers like Rhonda.”
