Crop emergence well ahead of average in the Peace

The June 8 crop report from Alberta Agriculture says 94.6 per cent of the Peace Region crop has emerged by that date, up from 72.9 the week before.

At the same time last year, emergence was at 39.9 per cent. The five-year average is 67.9 per cent, the ten-year average 77.

Surface moisture is rated 19 per cent poor, 45 per cent fair, 32 per cent good and 7 per cent excellent.

Sub-surface moisture is rated 16 per cent poor, 45 per cent fair, 32 per cent good, and 6 per cent excellent.

Thirty-eight per cent of the tame hay, and 60 per cent of the pasture, is rated good or excellent.
