WILDFIRE DANGER HIGH

Wildfire danger level moved to high in Grande Prairie Forest Area

Jun 21, 2021 | 3:25 PM

On June 21, Alberta Wildfire raised the wildfire danger in the Grande Prairie Forest Area to high.

The wildfire danger level was raised to high as the Grande Prairie area prepares to enter a heatwave with dry conditions expected over the next week.

Since March 1, there have been 49 wildfires burning nearly 63 hectares in the Grande Prairie Forest Area.

Moving the level to high doesn’t mean there is a fire ban, but Alberta Wildfire is asking people to use caution if they are burning or using off-highway vehicles in the area of dried grass, as fire can spread quickly and become hard to control.

Residents are reminded that they need a fire permit in order to have a fire and to not do any burning if there are windy conditions.
