Eight COVID-19 recoveries, three new cases recorded in Grande Prairie

The City of Grande Prairie added three new cases of COVID-19 along with eight recoveries for Tuesday, June 22, bringing the active case total in the city down by five to 50.

In the County of Grande Prairie, there were no new cases reported along with two recoveries. There are now 15 active cases there.

Across Alberta there were 92 new cases of COVID-19 identified, following the completion of approximately 6,335 tests. Those tests came with a positivity rate of 1.5 per cent.

Updated case totals among Peace Region municipalities as of June 23 are as follows:

  • City of Grande Prairie: 3,956 cases (50 active, 3,877 recovered, 29 deaths)
  • County of Grande Prairie: 1,409 cases (15 active, 1,389 recovered, five deaths)
  • M.D. of Greenview: 592 cases (seven active, 581 recovered, four deaths)
  • Birch Hills County: 32 cases (one active, 31 recovered)
  • M.D. of Spirit River: 81 cases (all recovered)
  • Saddle Hills County: 31 cases (all recovered)
  • M.D. of Smoky River: 147 cases (137 recovered, 10 deaths)
  • Big Lakes County: 716 cases (one active, 702 recovered, 13 deaths)
  • M.D. of Lesser Slave River: 376 cases (eight active, 367 recovered, one death)
  • M.D. of Peace: 689 cases (three active, 686 recovered)
  • M.D. of Fairview: 131 cases (129 recovered, two deaths)
  • Clear Hills County: 135 cases (134 recovered, one death)
  • Northern Sunrise County: 313 cases (312 recovered, one death)
  • County of Northern Lights: 136 cases (all recovered)
  • Mackenzie County: 1,926 cases (19 active, 1,881 recovered, 26 deaths)

Hospitalizations

Across the province, hospitalizations for COVID-19 dropped by one to 199 as of Tuesday night, while the number of patients in an ICU increased by two to 56.

In the North Zone, 19 people are in hospital (down two) with four in intensive care (unchanged).

Fatalities

Two new deaths were reported to Alberta Health over the last 24 hours. 2,292 people have now died from COVID-19 in Alberta.

One of those deaths was recorded in the Big Lakes County area, becoming the 13th fatality linked to COVID-19 since March of 2020.

The death occurred on April 6 and was a man in his 40s.

Vaccinations

In Grande Prairie, 52.9 per cent of all eligible residents have received their first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine, meaning 32,992 people 12 and older have at least one shot.

There are 12,587 people, or 20.2 per cent of the eligible population, that has been fully vaccinated.

Across Alberta, 2,702,372 people have received at least one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine, while 1,200,866 Albertans have been fully vaccinated.

This means, 71 per cent of Albertans 12 and older have received at least a dose of a vaccine, while 31.5 per cent of the eligible population is fully vaccinated.
