Update: The city says the Exploring Nature with A Wilder Calm event scheduled for Saturday, June 26 has been rescheduled to Saturday, July 10 due to the heat warning in place for the Grande Prairie area.

The City of Grande Prairie will be offering free weekend events and activities over the summer at various parks.

The summer activities and events will run at South Bear Creek Park on June 26 and July 17, while Muskoseepi Park will see Sunday events held from July 11 to August 22.

The events will feature activities like free disc golf lessons, yoga in the park, food trucks and live music.

Hailey Kramps with the City of Grande Prairie says they hope they can cater to as many people as possible.

Kramps tells EverythingGP weekend summer activities like these actually used to be pretty common throughout the city, especially the ones held on Sundays.

“Sunday’s in the park is actually a historical event for Grande Prairie. It used to be hosted up until the late 2000s and it used to be a series of music in the park. It was limited to just music, but it had a good attraction and everybody who lived here really liked it,” explained Kramps.

“It kind of died off when the recession hit in 2008 and we decided to bring it back, but include more than just music to ensure we are being as diverse as possible and getting as much of the crowd involved as possible.”

Kramps says they are looking to add more events throughout the summer. Any changes to the schedule will be made on the City of Grande Prairie’s website.

The only activity that will require booking a timeslot is the Adventure Challenge in the Park on July 18. All other activities will not have any restrictions on them.

The City of Grande Prairie looks forward to hosting these events over the summer weekends and providing opportunities for fun and recreation in the community.
