With sadness in our hearts, we announce the passing of Lucy Wardill. Lucy passed away peacefully with her family by her side in Kelowna, B.C. at the age of 91 years.
Lucy was born in Wayne, AB to Frederick and Gertrude Kopp. Her family moved to Culp in northern Alberta when she was six months old, and she enjoyed a wonderful childhood living on their farm by the lake. In her early twenties, she took a comptometer course and worked in Edmonton, Winnipeg, and Toronto before moving to Grande Prairie, Alberta where she met the love of her life, George Wardill. They married in 1955, put down roots, raised five children, and enjoyed Grande Prairie for 52 years. Sewing and gardening were her passions; she was a wonderful seamstress and took pride in her garden and flowers. She also enjoyed baking and her dinner buns were legendary in the family. She truly enjoyed her role as mother, wife and homemaker.
Lucy’s faith brought her much peace and comfort through the years. She was a faithful member of the Grande Prairie Alliance Church where she made many dear friends. She especially enjoyed her ladies’ sewing group.
In 2007 George and Lucy moved to Kelowna, B.C. where at the age of 78, Lucy finally embarked upon her lifelong dream of learning to play the guitar. She diligently practiced every day for the next twelve years. She loved music and especially anything involving the guitar.
Lovingly remembered by her children Karen (Jim), Brenda (Joe), Dale (Jeanette), Noreen (Kelly), and Wendy (Mark), grandchildren Amanda (Caleb), Taryn (Regan), Megan, Dallas, Nathan (Michele), Amber, Jamie, Riley, Renee, Maddison, Edge and Maggie and great-grandchildren Sage, Clover, Mira, Petra, and Sigrid, as well as many loved nieces and nephews and her extended family in Germany, Brazil, England, USA and across Canada.
She was predeceased by her husband George Wardill, her parents Fredrick and Gertrude Kopp, her sister Kathe, brother and sister-in-law Irvin and Lena, brother Erhardt and sister Elfreda, as well as her in-laws Hannah and Ken Palmer, John and Martha Wardill, Edna and Andy Shmyr, Tom and Lydia Wardill, Josephine and Don Reed, Wilfred and Esther Wardill, MaryEllen and Harry Vanden Dungen. Lucy was also predeceased by her loving grandson Dustin Bacon.
Thank you to all who cared and looked after her at Spring Valley Care Center in Kelowna.
Her family will remember her for her loving, caring heart, her sense of humor, her deep faith and her inner strength.
