Ribbon cut on Town of Sexsmith solar power farm
A ribbon-cutting has been held for the Town of Sexsmith’s new solar farm.
Officially called the Town of Sexsmith Solar Photovoltaic Project, it was built on the community’s former landfill site and was completed in partnership with ENMAX.
A release from the town says this will help reduce energy costs and that the annual savings will be equal to the loan payments for the first 15-years with savings kicking in after that. The solar farm has an expected lifetime of 25 years.
“We are very pleased that this project has come to fruition. This was only possible through collaboration and strong partnerships. It was important for the Council to achieve actual savings, find a good use for our reclaimed landfill site, and invest in renewable energy that would help our town succeed for years to come,” says Mayor Kate Potter in a release from the town.
