John Wiebe

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of John Wiebe. He died in the Grande Prairie QEII Hospital after a long struggle with pulmonary fibrosis.
John was born in Mildred, Saskatchewan where he attended school. Once he was old enough, he worked various jobs to help out his family. He married Elsie Steinke in 1963 and they had two children. After getting married he went to NAIT to become an automotive mechanic. He then worked as a mechanic for most of his life and owned his own mechanic shop for 20 years. He had many interests and jobs over the years. Not only did he do mechanical work, but he also tested gas wells, a fabricator at All West Glass.
He met Merle Hawryluk in 1994 and they enjoyed a full life together until his passing. John loved to travel, he and Merle travelled to 54 countries together. He loved music and played the guitar. He also loved camping, golfing, winter skiing and water skiing.
John is survived by his wife Merle Hawryluk, his children, Kerry (Marcel) Mayer and Tim (Darlene) Wiebe. He has 6 grandchildren, Leah, Riley, Nathan, Gavin, Braiden and Britney, along with 9 great grandchildren. He also is survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his parents, Henry and Anna Wiebe as well as 11 siblings. He was also predeceased by his grandson Riley Mayer.
In accordance with John’s wishes there will be no service.
