Man charged after driver flees attempted traffic stop in Bezanson

Aug 3, 2021 | 2:40 PM

Grande Prairie RCMP say a County of Grande Prairie man is facing charges after a driver took off from an attempted traffic stop in Bezanson.

Mounties say a rural officer was on patrol around 8:20 a.m. Friday when he saw a vehicle and driver that had fled from police on a previous occasion make a U-turn after seeing the RCMP in the area.

The driver then sped away from the attempted stop and drove onto a rural property.

A suspect was arrested while trying to get away on foot.

Police say it turned out the vehicle had been stolen in Fairview in May.

A search of the property that resulted from a warrant being obtained to further the investigation turned up six firearms, one of which was stolen, along with over 1000 rounds of ammunition, a compound bow, and three BB guns.

Forty-eight-year-old Dennis Ford is facing 23 charges, including failure to stop for a police officer, possession of stolen property, six counts of unlawful possession of a firearm, and a dozen more of failure to comply.

He has been remanded until a Wednesday appearance in Grande Prairie court.
