20 new COVID-19 cases recorded in Grande Prairie

There were 20 new cases of COVID-19 recorded in the City of Grande Prairie for Thursday, August 5 along with three recoveries, raising the active case total in the city to 147.

There was one new case recorded in the County of Grande Prairie on Thursday, along with one recovery, where there remain 22 active cases.

Across Alberta there were 369 new cases detected following the completion of 7,294 tests. There are now 2,719 active cases of COVID-19 in Alberta as of August 5.

Updated active case totals among Peace Region municipalities as of the end of day August 5 are as follows:

  • City of Grande Prairie: 147 active
  • County of Grande Prairie: 22 active
  • MD of Greenview: four active
  • MD of Spirit River: four active
  • MD of Peace: 10 active
  • MD of Fairview: three active
  • MD of Smoky River: one active
  • Big Lakes County: six active
  • Clear Hills County: one active
  • County of Northern Lights: one active
  • Mackenzie County: five active

Hospitalizations grew by 11 in the province to 113 as of Thursday night, with 25 of those people in an ICU.

As for vaccination rates, there have been 35,555 people in Grande Prairie who have received their first dose, equating to 57.7 per cent of the eligible population. Of those people, 29,895 people, or 48.5 per cent of those eligible, have been fully vaccinated.

Those numbers are below the provincial rate of 76.2 per cent of eligible people who have their first dose of vaccine. A total of 66.4 per cent of those eligible are fully vaccinated with two doses.
