Adventure Aviation hosting Show and Shine August 14

Aug 11, 2021 | 5:30 AM

Adventure Aviation in Grande Prairie will be hosting a Show and Shine on August 14.

The Show and Shine encourages residents of all ages, and airplane enthusiasts, to check out various planes from the Peace Region and across Alberta, which will be parked at the Adventure Aviation hangar at the Grande Prairie Airport.

“At 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, anybody who likes to look at airplanes or has questions about them can come on in and meet with the pilots and see the airplanes on the ground,” said Phil Troyer, the Owner of Adventure Aviation.

The Show and Shine will also have food trucks on-site. The event runs until 1:00 p.m.

Those attending the event will also be gifted with a little surprise, according to Troyer.

He says a few high-performance racing planes will begin making their way into Grande Prairie starting on Friday afternoon and will be viewable up close for people on Saturday.

“We’ve invited some pilots in the Reno Air Races from the International Formula One Air Racing Association. These are high-performance race airplanes and we’ve got three or four of them scheduled to be here on Saturday,” explained Troyer.

“They’re very unique airplanes and I’m told they go four times as fast as a Prius and burn less fuel than a Prius. They’ll be flying over Friday afternoon and Saturday when they leave.”

Troyer says race planes are intentionally coming to Grande Prairie this weekend, as he will be meeting with local and racing officials about the possibility of bringing air races to Grande Prairie by 2022.

“Our plan and goal is to hopefully get the air races to Grande Prairie in 2022. So far, they’re only hosted in Reno, Nevada, once a year and have never been in Canada before,” he said.

“We’re bringing quite a few people in on Friday to have some meetings, start the planning, meeting with the airport, and trying to get some support for it. Hopefully, we can have air races here in Grande Prairie next year.”

Lots of things still need to happen in order to bring air races to Grande Prairie, but Troyer says he is excited to get the ball rolling.
