Special air quality statement issued in Grande Prairie due to wildfire smoke

Aug 14, 2021 | 11:17 AM

Environment Canada has issued a special air quality statement due to wildfire smoke moving over the region, which is causing poor air quality and reducing visibility at times.

The weather office says air quality and visibility due to smoke can fluctuate over short distances and can vary considerably from hour to hour.

“Individuals may experience symptoms such as increased coughing, throat irritation, headaches or shortness of breath,” they warn. “Children, seniors, and those with cardiovascular or lung disease, such as asthma, are especially at risk.”

As of 8 a.m., the air quality in Grande was rated as a 2, which is considered low risk.
