Grande Prairie adds 24 new COVID-19 cases, 38 recoveries

There were 24 new cases of COVID-19 identified in the City of Grande Prairie for Tuesday, August 17, along with 38 recoveries, bringing the total number of active cases in the Swan City down to 316.

In the County of Grande Prairie, there were 15 new cases recorded on Tuesday along with 15 recoveries. There are now 102 active cases there.

Across Alberta, there were 678 new cases identified on 9,215 tests, resulting in a 7.3 per cent test positivity rate.

Active case totals, as of August 17, among Peace Region municipalities are as follows:

  • City of Grande Prairie: 330 active (-14)
  • County of Grande Prairie: 102 active (+4)
  • MD of Greenview: 13 active (+2)
  • Birch Hills County: one active (-)
  • MD of Spirit River: four active (-1)
  • Saddle Hills County: three active (+1)
  • MD of Peace: 31 active (+8)
  • MD of Fairview: four active (-)
  • MD of Smoky River: 15 active (+4)
  • Big Lakes County: 15 active (-)
  • County of Northern Lights: four active (-)
  • Northern Sunrise County: seven active (+1)
  • Mackenzie County: 36 active (+8)

Across the province, hospitalizations in Alberta grew by eight to 184 on Tuesday, while the number of people in an ICU grew by four to 48.

In the North Zone, there are 19 people in hospital due to COVID-19 (up four), four of whom are in intensive care (up one).

In Grande Prairie, 58.7 per cent of residents eligible (aged 12 and older) have received at least one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine, while 50.4 per cent of the eligible population has been fully vaccinated.

In Alberta, 77 per cent of the eligible population have received one dose of the vaccine, while 68.2 per cent of those eligible are fully vaccinated.
