Grande Prairie Reds gear up to host U15 AA baseball provincials

The U15 AA Grande Prairie Reds will be hosting the Tier III provincial baseball championship from August 27-29.

The tournament will be held at Evergreen Park and feature six teams from across Alberta.

According to Maryanne Keddie, the off-field manager for the Reds, it will be an exciting weekend of baseball.

“We have six teams participating in the tournament, so five in addition to our Grande Prairie Reds… We start at 2:30 p.m. on Friday and roll through until 9:30 P.M. on Sunday.”

Keddie says the tournament came together very quickly, as Baseball Alberta awarded the Reds the tournament just three weeks ago.

While it may seem like short timing to organize a provincial tournament, Keddie says they’re ready to host a successful event and hopes the community will come out to support the Reds.

“We’re just asking the community to come out and support our Grande Prairie Reds, as they battle it out in the championship,” she said.

“We have a great host committee and parents that’ve stepped up, who will be doing all the scorekeeping, groundskeeping and all that good stuff.”

The Grande Prairie Reds will begin their tournament on Saturday, August 28 at 8:30 a.m. and will play again at 2:30 p.m.

All of the six teams participating will take part in the playoffs on Sunday.

The AA U15 Reds won’t be the only Grande Prairie team in provincial action this weekend. The U13 AA Reds will be taking part in their provincial championship in Drayton Valley this weekend.
