Local museums in Grande Prairie are teaming up for International Museum Day festivities Sunday.

On August 29, the Grande Prairie Museum, Heritage Discovery Centre, Philip J. Currie Dinosaur Museum, and Veterans Memorial Gardens & Interpretive Centre all host a variety of activities for residents to learn more about the region’s museums, all with free admission.

At the Grande Prairie Museum, there will be a Recycling Then and Now program. The exhibit will show guests how recycling has changed since pioneer times, give some tips on how to recycle better today and show some examples of creative re-use.

The Heritage Discovery Centre will have a History of Sports in Grande Prairie program. The exhibit will explore Grande Prairie’s sports history, including baseball, hockey, curling and horse racing, football, soccer, wrestling and more.

At the Philip J. Currie Dinosaur Museum, there will be a showcase of a Burgess Shale Quilts show, as well as a Species at Risk program. There will also be 3D movies in the theatre.

The Veterans Memorial Garden will include a program to show visitors what life was like for soldiers during World War II.

The city will be offering free shuttles between the museums for residents every 40 minutes and each of the museums are free to attend on International Museum Day between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m. on August 29.

The city says event registration is encouraged as space is limited at the museums.

Registration can be completed on the city’s website.
