Grande Prairie adds 40 new COVID-19 cases, 26 recoveries

The City of Grande Prairie added 40 new cases of COVID-19, along with 26 recoveries for Wednesday, September 1, bringing the active case total in the Swan City up by 14 to 491.

In the County of Grande Prairie, active COVID-19 cases decreased by six to 180.

Across Alberta, there were 1,339 new cases identified Wednesday, following the completion of 12,416 tests. Those tests had a positivity rate of 10.8 per cent.

There are currently 12,868 active cases of COVID-19 in the province.

Active case totals, as of September 1 among Peace Region municipalities, are as follows:

  • City of Grande Prairie: 491 active (+14)
  • County of Grande Prairie: 180 active (-6)
  • MD of Greenview: 67 active (+5)
  • Birch Hills County: four active (+1)
  • MD of Spirit River: six active (-2)
  • Saddle Hills County: four active (-)
  • MD of Peace: 75 active (-3)
  • MD of Fairview: 12 active (+3)
  • MD of Smoky River: 19 active (-3)
  • Big Lakes County: 69 active (+4)
  • Clear Hills County: four active (+1)
  • County of Northern Lights: 20 active (+3)
  • Northern Sunrise County: 24 active (-4)
  • Mackenzie County: 111 active (-)

Across the province, hospitalizations grew by 22 in the last 24 hours to 487, with 114 people in the ICU, an increase of seven from the day prior.

In the North Zone, 63 people are in hospital (up six) with eight of those patients in the ICU (up one).

Five more deaths from COVID-19 were reported to Alberta Health over the last 24 hours. A total of 2,388 Albertans have now died from COVID-19 complications.

In Grande Prairie, 60.1 per cent of residents who are eligible (those aged 12 and up) have received at least one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine, while 52 per cent of the eligible population has been fully vaccinated.

In Alberta, 78.2 per cent of the eligible population have received one dose of the vaccine, while 70 per cent of those eligible are fully vaccinated.
