Two COVID-19 deaths recorded in County of Grande Prairie

The City of Grande Prairie added 17 new cases of COVID-19 along with 41 recoveries for Tuesday, September 7, bringing the active case total in the city down to 505.

In the County of Grande Prairie, active COVID-19 cases declined by 12 to 190, after four new cases and 14 recoveries were recorded there.

There were also two deaths from COVID-19 reported in the County on Wednesday, becoming the sixth and seventh fatalities in the region which includes Beaverlodge, Wembley and Sexsmith.

The deaths were two of 18 reported to Alberta Health over the last 24 hours from COVID-19 in the province, which occurred between September 2 and 7. That brings the death toll in Alberta to 2,425.

Across Alberta, there were 1,166 new cases identified on Tuesday, following the completion of 10,700 tests. Those tests had a positivity rate of ~10.9 per cent.

Active case totals, as of September 7 among Peace Region municipalities, are as follows:

Across the province, hospitalizations grew by 45 over the last 24 hours to 647, with 147 people in the ICU, an increase of 10 from the day prior.

Of the 500 non-ICU COVID patients in the province, 383 are either unvaccinated or only partially vaccinated. Of the 147 in ICU, 131 are either unvaccinated or only partially vaccinated.

In the North Zone, 69 people are in hospital (down two) with nine of those patients in the ICU (up two).

In Grande Prairie, 60.9 per cent of residents who are eligible (those aged 12 and up) have received at least one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine, while 52.8 per cent of the eligible population have been fully vaccinated.

In Alberta, 78.7 per cent of the eligible population have received one dose of the vaccine, while 70.7 per cent of those eligible are fully vaccinated.
