Grande Prairie Regional Sport Connection Try-It Day ready to go September 11

Sep 10, 2021 | 1:53 PM

The Grande Prairie Regional Sport Connection is gearing up for its annual Try-it-Day on September 11.

Executive Director Karna Germsheid says this year there will be 29 different organizations participating, and 32 different sports for people of all ages to select from.

She adds people young and old can sign up for a variety of sports including rugby, archery, dance, martial arts, ninja warriors, aquatics, stand-up paddleboarding, and much more.

“We have more sessions now than we’ve ever had historically. We’re really hoping there’s this pent-up demand for people to discover what’s going to be available for themselves and their children,” she said.

Germsheid says residents can sign up for a maximum of four sessions/sports across 18 different facilities across the city, county, Beaverlodge, and Sexsmith.

“Some of our sessions get filled up really quickly, it’s a 100 per cent free event, so we want everyone to be respectful, and if they can’t make it to Try It Day, please don’t lock that session off.”

Those interested in signing up for Try-It Day have until 10:00 p.m. on September 10 to do so. Only those who’ve registered in advance for Try-It Day will be allowed to participate, no walkups will be accepted.

Throughout the pandemic, Germsheid says they offered two online Try-It-Days.

While she says they were successful, she is excited to offer the first in-person Try-It-Day in over a year.

“Our last in-person (Try It Day) was in January 2020, right before COVID really shut everything down, and it was our largest ever with over 600 participants registered.”

With that, Germsheid says they are hoping for an even bigger turnout than in January 2020.

Provincial COVID-19 health guidelines will be followed at Try It Day.
