Grande Prairie adds 118 new COVID-19 cases, 113 recoveries over weekend

The City of Grande Prairie added 118 new cases and 113 recoveries between September 10 and 12, raising the active case total to 489 as of the end of day Sunday.

In the County of Grande Prairie, there were 45 new cases identified and 31 recoveries, bringing the total number of active cases there up to 174.

Across Alberta, the province added 4,740 new cases on just over 40,000 tests, resulting in an 11.8 per cent test positivity rate. There are currently 18,395 active cases in the province.

Active case totals, as of September 12 among Peace Region municipalities, are as follows:

  • City of Grande Prairie: 489 active (+5)
  • County of Grande Prairie: 174 active (+14)
  • MD of Greenview: 80 active (-6)
  • Birch Hills County: three active (-1)
  • MD of Spirit River: 13 active (+9)
  • Saddle Hills County: five active (+2)
  • MD of Peace: 117 active (+17)
  • MD of Fairview: 33 active (+5)
  • MD of Smoky River: 25 active (+3)
  • Big Lakes County: 98 active (+2)
  • Clear Hills County: 20 active (+7)
  • County of Northern Lights: 49 active (+1)
  • Northern Sunrise County: 30 active (-)

Across Alberta, hospitalizations grew by 117 to 803, while the number of patients in the ICU grew by 29 to 198.

Of those non-ICU patients in hospital (605 people), 446 are either unvaccinated or only partially vaccinated. Of the 198 people in the ICU with COVID-19, 179 are either unvaccinated or only partially vaccinated.

In the North Zone, hospitalizations sit at 82 (up five), while ICU patients grew to 15 (up four).

There were 18 deaths reported to Alberta Health over the last three days, bringing the death toll from COVID-19 in the province to 2,462.

In Grande Prairie, 61.7 per cent of residents who are eligible (those aged 12 and up) have received at least one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine, while 53.4 per cent of the eligible population have been fully vaccinated.

In Alberta, 79.2 per cent of the eligible population have received one dose of the vaccine, while 71.2 per cent of those eligible are fully vaccinated.
