Storm drop season opener in Drayton Valley

Sep 18, 2021 | 10:31 AM

The Grande Prairie Storm’s comeback came up just short in their season opener Friday evening, as they fell 5-4 in overtime against the Drayton Valley Thunder.

After falling behind 4-2 midway through the third period thanks in part to two goals in under a minute from the Thunder, the Storm found their goal-scoring touch.

Robert Pizzey and Kayden Skulmoski would both notch their first goals of the season within 1:18 of each other to even the game up and send it to overtime.

It was the third time of the night the Storm came back, after the club found themselves down by a goal in both the first and second periods.

In overtime, Rylan Brown would score on Storm goaltender Jonathan Labrie to give the Thunder their first win of the season.

The two teams will rematch Saturday night once again in Drayton Valley. Puck drop for tonight’s game is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. and can be viewed on HockeyTV.
