Grande Prairie adds 166 new COVID-19 cases over weekend, 85 recoveries

The City of Grande Prairie added 166 new cases of COVID-19 along with 85 recoveries from September 17-19, bringing the total number of active cases in the Swan City up by 81 to 533.

In the County of Grande Prairie, there were 76 new cases and 39 recoveries identified over the weekend. There are now 212 active cases there.

Between Friday and Sunday, Alberta added 4,633 new cases (1,605 on Friday, 1,592 Saturday and 1,436 Sunday) on 46,367 tests, resulting in a 9.9 per cent test positivity rate for the weekend.

There are currently 20,614 active cases in the province, 76.6 per cent of whom are unvaccinated (15,795 cases).

Over the weekend, the province reported 22 deaths from COVID-19, bringing the death toll to 2,545.

Active case totals, as of September 19 among Peace Region municipalities, are as follows:

  • City of Grande Prairie: 533 active (+81)

Across the province, hospitalizations grew by 43 to 954, while ICU patients increased by one to 216.

Of those in the ICU with COVID-19, 189 patients are unvaccinated, eight are partially vaccinated and 19 are fully vaccinated.

In the North Zone, hospitalizations grew by 13 to 118, while the number of ICU patients increased by one to 12.

In Grande Prairie, 64.1 per cent of residents who are eligible (those aged 12 and up) have received at least one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine, while 54.7 per cent of the eligible population have been fully vaccinated.

In Alberta, 81 per cent of the eligible population have received one dose of the vaccine, while 72.3 per cent of those eligible are fully vaccinated.
