Grande Prairie records two COVID-19 deaths, 44 new cases

The City of Grande Prairie recorded its 35th and 36th death from COVID-19 on Monday.

The deaths recorded in Grande Prairie were two of 29 reported to Alberta Health over the last 24 hours. There have been 2,574 deaths as a result of COVID-19 in Alberta.

Meantime, the Swan City added 44 new cases of COVID-19 along with 41 recoveries for Monday, September 20, bringing the total number of active cases in the Swan City up by one to 534.

In the County of Grande Prairie, there were 18 new cases and seven recoveries identified on Monday. There are now 223 active cases in that region.

Alberta added 1,519 new cases from 13,597 tests, resulting in an 8.95 per cent test positivity rate.

There are currently 20,917 active cases in the province. Of the active cases, 70.2 per cent are people that are unvaccinated (14,685 cases).

Active case totals, as of September 20 among Peace Region municipalities, are as follows:

Across the province, hospitalizations grew by 42 to 996, while ICU patients increased by six to 222.

Of those in the ICU with COVID-19, 199 patients are unvaccinated, eight are partially vaccinated and 15 are fully vaccinated.

In the North Zone, hospitalizations grew by four to 122, while the number of ICU patients stayed the same with 12 patients in ICU beds.

In Grande Prairie, 64.7 per cent of residents who are eligible (those aged 12 and up) have received at least one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine, while 55 per cent of the eligible population have been fully vaccinated.

In Alberta, 81.4 per cent of the eligible population have received one dose of the vaccine, while 72.8 per cent of those eligible are fully vaccinated.
