Grande Prairie RCMP investigating bomb threat at Grande Prairie Composite High School

The Grande Prairie Public School Division (GPPSD) says early this morning, the Composite High School received a bomb threat by telephone.

Once the threat was made, all students and staff were told to muster safely at Legion Field.

In an email to EverythingGP, the GPPSD says the bomb threat came from somewhere in the United States.

Following the threat, a phone call was made to the RCMP, who say they responded to the report at 10:30 a.m.

The Grande Prairie RCMP arrived on scene and say after a search with the RCMP Police Dog Services, they failed to locate any explosive devices at the school.

All students have been sent home for the remainder of the day as a precaution.

Students who drive or walk to school were dismissed first.

First Student also sent busses to pick up students at the Legion Field Parking area on the west side of the school.

Parents are allowed to pick up their kids at Legion Field as of 11:45 a.m. Thursday morning.

Any student not able to enter their residence will remain at the school until arrangements can be made with parents.

The school thanks everyone for their patience and understanding. An update from the school will be sent later in the day.

Earlier on Thursday, Peace Wapiti Academy and Harry Balfour School were placed on hold and secure orders. Those have since been lifted.

The Grande Prairie RCMP’s investigation continues.
