Vaccine Mandates

ATA supports vaccine mandates for teachers, other school staff

Sep 28, 2021 | 11:36 AM

The Alberta Teachers’ Association is urging the provincial government to mandate that all teachers and other school staff be vaccinated against COVID-19.

The association says that school boards should bring in the requirement if the government doesn’t.

ATA president Jason Schilling says in a statement that the best way to support student safety when many kids are too young to be vaccinated is to ensure that the adults around them have had their shots.

“We cannot mandate vaccination for our members so we are making it clear that we believe those who can—like the Government of Alberta or individual school boards—should.”

A non-profit parents group called Support Our Students says it has compiled data that indicates at least 198 schools in the province are dealing with COVID-19 outbreaks
