Grande Prairie records 61 new COVID-19 cases, 32 recoveries

The City of Grande Prairie added 61 new cases of COVID-19 along with 32 recoveries for Wednesday, September 29, bringing the total number of active cases in the city up by 29 to 507.

The County of Grande Prairie recorded 42 new cases and 26 recoveries. There are now 292 active cases in that region.

Across Alberta, there were 1,706 new cases identified on 17,590 tests, resulting in a 9.7 per cent test positivity rate. There are 20,255 active cases in the province.

Active case totals, as of September 29 among Peace Region municipalities, are as follows:

  • City of Grande Prairie: 507 active (+29)
  • County of Grande Prairie: 292 active (+16)
  • MD of Greenview: 145 active (+21)
  • Birch Hills County: 20 active (+2)
  • MD of Spirit River: eight active (+1)
  • Saddle Hills County: seven active (-)
  • MD of Peace: 182 active (+3)
  • MD of Fairview: 70 active (+3)
  • MD of Smoky River: 48 active (-3)
  • Big Lakes County: 127 active (-4)
  • Clear Hills County: 38 active (-1)
  • County of Northern Lights: 73 active (-6)

Across the province, hospitalizations dropped by one to 1,083, while ICU patients dropped by five to 263.

Of those patients in the ICU, 228 people are unvaccinated against COVID-19 while 24 are fully vaccinated.

In the North Zone hospitalizations held at 147, while ICU patients dropped by one to 12.

There were 20 deaths linked to COVID-19 reported to Alberta Health over the last 24 hours. The youngest of those fatalities was a 24-year-old from the North Zone, who had no known pre-existing conditions.

There have now been 2,717 deaths from COVID-19 in Alberta.

In Grande Prairie, 67.6 per cent of residents who are eligible have received at least one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine (56 per cent of the total population), while 56.6 per cent of the eligible population have been fully vaccinated (47 per cent of the total population).

In Alberta, 83.6 per cent of the eligible population has received one dose of the vaccine, while 74.3 per cent of those eligible are fully vaccinated.
