The Grande Prairie RCMP say they are investigating threats made towards St. John Paul II Catholic High School in Grande Prairie, which led school administration to close the school Friday.

Families were notified of the closure in a letter sent home on Thursday, which stated they were acting on a perceived threat towards the school.

School officials say in the letter they take any threat of violence very seriously and feel it is best for staff and students to remain clear of the building.

Sgt. Shawn Graham with the Grande Prairie RCMP says the investigation is ongoing and that the threats originated online. No further details were provided.
