Grande Prairie records two COVID-19 deaths, adds 41 recoveries

The City of Grande Prairie recorded two deaths as a result of COVID-19 on October 4, bringing the total number of COVID-19 deaths in the Swan City up to 42.

The deaths recorded in Grande Prairie were two of the 26 reported in the province. Of the 26 deaths, there were nine recorded in the North Zone. A total of 2,779 Albertans have died as a result of COVID-19.

The deaths in the North Zone ranged between the ages of 50 and 70. Eight of the nine cases were patients with pre-existing conditions.

In Grande Prairie, there were three new cases and 41 recoveries reported over the last 24 hours, bringing the total number of active cases in the Swan City down by 40 to 510.

The County of Grande Prairie added five new cases and 38 recoveries. There are now 253 active cases in the region.

Alberta added 663 new COVID-19 cases on October 4, from 8,018 tests, resulting in an 8.26 per cent positivity rate.

Active case totals, as of October 5 among Peace Region municipalities, are as follows:

  • MD of Fairview: 77 active (-3)
  • MD of Smoky River: 54 active (-2)
  • Big Lakes County: 121 active (+2)
  • Clear Hills County: 25 active (-6)
  • County of Northern Lights: 56 active (-10)

In the North Zone, 148 people are in hospital (down six), while 11 people are in the ICU (up one).

Across the province, hospitalizations grew by 15 to 1,094, while ICU patients fell by five, down to 252.

Of the 252 Albertans in the ICU right now, 216 are unvaccinated against COVID-19.

In Grande Prairie, 68.6 per cent of people who are eligible have received at least one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine (56.9 per cent of the total population), while 57.6 per cent of the eligible population have been fully vaccinated (47.7 per cent of the total population).

In Alberta, 84.5 per cent of the eligible population has received one dose of the vaccine while 75.1 per cent of those eligible are fully vaccinated.
