Two more COVID-19 deaths recorded in Grande Prairie, active cases decline

The City of Grande Prairie has recorded two more deaths as a result of COVID-19.

The deaths were two of eight reported to Alberta Health over the last 24 hours, and two of three in the North Zone. To date, 3,014 Albertans have died as a result of COVID-19 in the province.

Of the three people in the North Zone who passed away, one a male in his 30s and a female in her 70s who both had pre-existing conditions. The other was a male in his 50s who had no known pre-existing conditions.

There were also 14 new cases along with 24 recoveries added in the City of Grande Prairie for Wednesday, October 20. There are now 216 active cases in the Swan City.

In the County of Grande Prairie, there were six new cases and 11 recoveries. The county is down to 113 active cases.

Across Alberta, there were 770 new cases of COVID-19 identified on 11,874 tests, resulting in a 6.5 per cent test positivity rate. There are currently 10,434 active cases in the province.

Active case totals, as of October 20 among Peace Region municipalities, are as follows:

  • MD of Spirit River: 15 active (-1)
  • Saddle Hills County: 15 active (-1)
  • MD of Peace: 82 active (+2)
  • MD of Fairview: 22 active (-1)
  • MD of Smoky River: 17 active (-1)
  • Big Lakes County: 121 active (-)
  • Clear Hills County: Six active (-)
  • County of Northern Lights: 25 active (-5)
  • Northern Sunrise County: 21 active (-7)

Across the province, hospitalizations dropped by 16 to 912, while the number of ICU patients dropped by two to 201.

Of those admitted to intensive care, 169 are unvaccinated, nine are partially vaccinated, and 21 are fully vaccinated.

In the North Zone, there are 136 people in the hospital (down five), while 13 people are in the ICU (down, one).

In Grande Prairie, 70.9 per cent of people who are eligible have received at least one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine (58.8 per cent of the total population), while 61.3 per cent of the eligible population has been fully vaccinated (50.8 per cent of the total population).

In Alberta, 86.3 per cent of eligible Albertans aged 12 and older have received at least one dose of the vaccine, while 78.1 per cent of those eligible are fully vaccinated.
