Nitehawk installing new T-bar lift at ski hill

Installation is underway on a new T-bar lift at Nitehawk Year-round Adventure Park’s ski hill.

The T-bar will be used in place of the chairlift at the hill, after it was taken out and damaged by a landslide in May 2020.

Because of the loss of the chairlift, Nitehawk had to operate with limited options at their hill for last season.

Nitehawk General Manager Johnathan Clarkson says the addition of the T-bar is a huge relief for everyone in the organization.

“The main factor in it is being able to offer more terrain to the public. Obviously, wanting to expand on that was our goal this season and by putting this T-bar in, we’ll be able to do that,” he explained.

“We’ll be adding (the) Showoff (run) as well as the Connector, (they’re) two of our advanced runs. That’ll open up the demographic that will actually come out and use the hill this season, because we were limited to some beginner terrain mainly, so this is going to be a great addition.”

Clarkson tells EverythingGP by adding the T-bar, this is just the start of getting the hill back to full function.

“As we move forward here, we will be working towards a long-term plan to open up more terrain into the coming years,” said Clarkson.

“We’re doing everything we can to make sure the stability of the entire hill to the east is good and that as we open those runs and they’re set up for long-term success. Nitehawk has been here for 60 years and we want it to be open for another 60.”

For the time being, Clarkson mentioned they don’t have enough information on if they’ll be able to install a new chairlift at the facility. For the time being, the T-bar will give skiers access to the more advanced terrain.

Construction on the T-bar is expected to be completed sometime in early January. While it is late in the season, Clarkson adds he’s just happy they can get back to operating the hill closer to normal.

“Obviously, we’re a little late here getting shovels in the ground, but our team is excited for it and excited to offer more to the community this winter.”

Lift tickets for both the ski hill and tube zone will have to be purchased online for the first part of the year, in order to keep capacity limited and suited to the hill.

More information on capacity at the hill will be made closer to when the T-bar is installed.
