No charges stemming from protest outside MLA Tracy Allard’s home

Grande Prairie RCMP have not laid any charges following a protest outside the home of MLA Tracy Allard where a stand with a noose was displayed on Sunday.

The Grande Prairie MLA condemned the display at the protest in a Facebook post Monday, calling the stand, which had the words “no to masks, end the gov’t, hang ’em all” written on it, a “shocking act of aggression, a clear threat, and a sad punctuation mark on the polarization and anger in our society.”

Authorities say they were called to the protest near Allard’s home in Grande Prairie at around 2:50 p.m. on October 31. They add attending officers located 15 to 20 people protesting, who were not blocking the flow of traffic or Halloween trick-or-treaters.

They say officers did request the displayed noose, and a protestor did remove it without incident.

RCMP say they investigated who may have brought the display, but were unable to identify the party responsible for bringing it and displaying it.

“As their intentions could not be determined, no charges were laid out of this incident,” RCMP say, in a release.

Allard added in her Facebook post that while she respects citizens’ right to protest, she urges those choosing to demonstrate to leave her family and private life alone.
