Northern Spirit Light Show to light up Evergreen Park Thursday

Starting Thursday, the annual Northern Spirit Light Show will be lit up for residents to enjoy over the holiday season.

Jody White, president of the Peace Draft Horse Club, says this means Christmas lights will light up Evergreen Park as part of the 13th annual light show.

“November 18, we turn on the lights and start expecting customers there and that’ll be (every) Thursday to Sunday,” he said, adding the show will be open from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. each night.

“Then starting December 9 is every day until New Year’s Eve, excluding Christmas Day.”

Due to restrictions, White explains the event will look similar to last year’s show, which is slightly different from pre-pandemic times.

“There will be no hot chocolate, no open firepit, and no horses unfortunately again this year.”

Although there are no wagon rides again this year, White says the drive-through light show is still a highlight for many during the holiday season.

He adds the price is staying the same as last year at $15 per vehicle, with no limit to the number of people inside.

“Last year, we saw quite a few people pull up and then all load up in the box of the pickup so, if we can’t have the wagon, I guess that’s the next best thing, looking at the lights from the box of the truck.”

White says last year they raised over $100,000 for local non-profits and schools. He hopes the light show will bring a smile to people’s faces and get everyone in the Christmas spirit, just like they were able to for the 2020 Northern Spirit light show.

“There were lots of times people came through two, three, four times in an evening, and I think they just had to get out of their house doing something… and it gets everyone in the Christmas spirit too, which is nice.”

Food Bank donations will also be accepted again this year.
