Storm to celebrate long time volunteer Doug Edey November 27

Nov 18, 2021 | 1:04 PM

The Grande Prairie Storm in partnership with Pattison Media will be celebrating long-time community member and volunteer Doug Edey at their November 27th home game against the Brooks Bandits.

Doug is a long-time volunteer and well-known community member in Grande Prairie and throughout the Peace Region. You can normally spot him at any popular event happening in the area.

Storm Business Manager Ryan Carter says the organization has wanted to honour Doug for quite some time.

“We think it’s overdue. Doug has been an amazing volunteer for many organizations in the community,” said Carter. “(He’s at) every game, he’s there early and everyone who’s been to a Storm game has seen that Doug is a fixture there.”

“I played for the team many years ago in the ’90s and Doug was up in the bleachers dancing the whole game. Everybody who knows Doug knows how friendly of a person he is and what he brings to the community. We have a few surprises for him that night that we think will be pretty special.”

Among the special guests in attendance will be Juno-nominated and Canadian Country Music Award-winning singer-songwriter Duane Steele, to perform the national anthem.

“Doug went to school with Duane Steele and he’s a big fan of his. When we reached out to Duane there was no hesitation, he wanted to be involved and was gracious enough to make his way up here. He’s excited about the opportunity.”

Along with Doug Edey Night, Pattison Media will be encouraging fans to make a donation to either the 989 Rewind Radio Stuff-A-Bus in support of the Salvation Army food bank Christmas hampers and Big Country’s Big Toy Box supporting local children in need with a gift for the holiday season.
